May 10th is Buy a Horse a Book Day
“Buy a Horse a Book Day” is created by Trafalgar Square Books and Heels Down, an equestrian media company.
Partake in the event by posting a selfie with the book you buy and tag it with #BuyAHorseBookDay.
To participate in the celebration, we’ve assembled a few suggestions of Appaloosa related books and authors!
The Horse That Looked Different
First up is Children’s Book author Stacy Einfalt who started riding Appaloosas at the age of 8 years old with Gayle Matson Kozak. She began writing children’s books based on her interest in becoming an illustrator.
Her first book, The Horse That Looked Different, teaches about bullying with a spotted Appaloosa protagonist.
Joey: How a Blind Rescue Horse Helped Others Learn to See
Next we have Joey: How a Blind Rescue Horse Helped Others Learn to See by Jennifer Marshall Bleakley. Joey‘s titular character is a rescued, blind Appaloosa.
The book follows the intertwined story of Joey and the horse rescue as he is trained to provide equine therapy to children. It is a lovely story.
The Legendary Appaloosa
Finally, for those who want a classic option, there is The Legendary Appaloosa (2007) written by Cheryl Dudley with a forward by George Hatley.
From the Inside Flap: “The Legendary Appaloosa celebrates this breed, with… …the Appaloosa’s history, its coat patterns and other physical characteristics, its bond with humans, and the breed’s uses for pleasure riding and as a ranch horse, as well as in competitions such as horse show, rodeos, and endurance races.”
